Purge Fallout
24 April 2025
So, as expected, there was a little fallout from my social media purge.
One person did notice that I had stopped posting and reached out to me through other channels. While this type of solicitation wasn’t the intention of my purge, I'm not going to lie, it did feel good to know someone noticed my absence.
I have been able to start reading, albeit not with the progress that I would like. I have been playing games again. I have been trying to be more present. Fighting the urge to pick up the phone and scroll is hard, but I am managing.
I also feel like I am being more productive at work. I’m getting more progress made in my day-to-day projects. It really is surprising how much time 30 seconds of TikTok can eat up. It's not just the 30 seconds of that scroll; it's also the 2 minutes it takes to get back into a task, or... fuck... to even decide on the next task to complete.
One coping mechanism that I am trending towards, since it’s the closest to the scroll that I can get, is refreshing my news feed reader multiple times a day. At least I can get to the end of it sometimes, but it also feels endless. Some days, I'll get 2K+ new articles across the various topics. I guess the one good thing is that I can pick a topic I want to focus on and clear that out for the day without having to go through the entire feed. I am constantingly clearing all the unread feeds and then refreshing, so I have constant NEW news!!
Off heroin and onto methadone.
