I got tired of modern search engines hiding actual files behind paywalls, SEO spam, ad traps, and endless landing pages. Sometimes you don't want a webpage talking about a fileβ€”you just want the actual file. Open directories exist all over the internet, but existing tools to search them were either clunky, dead, or behind paywalls.

So I built FileSearch.Tools.

FileSearch.Tools is a dedicated search engine and open directory index. It is continuously populated by my own custom web crawlers scanning the internet for publicly accessible directories, servers, and files.

Here is what's under the hood:

πŸ“ Categorized File Search
Search millions of direct file links and instantly filter results across Videos (MP4, MKV), Audio (MP3, FLAC), Pictures, Documents (PDF, EPUB), and Archives (ZIP, TAR, ISO).

🎯 Search Dorks & Advanced Operators
Power users can refine queries using targeted dorks like site:, url:, ext:, size:, and intitle: to drill straight down to specific hosts, directory paths, or minimum file sizes.

πŸ€– Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server
Built for the AI era. FileSearch.Tools exposes a native MCP server with the search_open_directories tool, enabling AI assistants like Claude Desktop and local agents to query the file index autonomously.

πŸ”Œ Developer REST API
Hook the index directly into your own scripts, download automation tools, or custom applications with an open, straightforward REST API.

πŸ“Š Live Stats & Extension Breakdown
Check the live pulse of the crawler with real-time stats tracking total indexed files and the top 100 file extensions discovered across the web.

Have an open directory you want indexed? You can even submit URLs directly for the crawler to parse.

Skip the SEO bloat and search the open web:
